Welcome to Famine of Beauty!
Yet another fashion newsletter to take up space in your email inbox
This newsletter covers fashion from a wider context of cultural relevancy and everything else in between. “Famine of Beauty” is an eclectic mix of essays, personal musings, and industry gossip/rumors that I find interesting!
I got the name for my newsletter “Famine of Beauty” from the late and great Andre Leon Talley—one of my earliest fashion heroes. Talley famously said in the 2009 documentary, The September Issue: “It’s a famine of beauty, honey! My eyes are starving for beauty.”
You’ll find me (or at least attempt to…) searching for the answers to some of the burning questions I currently have, and much more:
Will Phoebe Philo ever return to fashion?
What is the point of Diet Prada and how do we eradicate slacktivist journalism?
Why aren’t fashion brands investing in the high fashion twitter community?
How have political agendas and the recent rise of outrage culture now become so intertwined with fashion?
Does TikTok have actual longevity as a useful social media platform? And is the app ruining the general public’s knowledge of fashion?
Are fashion critics dying out? And what does that mean for the fashion journalism field moving forward?
How do general interest publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, and Financial Times maintain some of the best fashion coverage?
What is the point in having the Met Gala if no one dresses on theme? Is it just a glorified event for brands to pay exorbitant amounts of money for celebrities to create media impact and engagement?
With the rise of community brands such as Christopher John Rogers and Peter Do, what role will conglomerates such as LVMH, Kering, and Richemont play in the industry looking ahead?
Who will replace Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton, and will they be able to deal with the pressures of replacing a beloved visionary?
As of right now, I’m aiming to release 2-3 posts per week. Follow me on Twitter and Instagram for more updates on new posts!
